Basic Mittens for the Whole Family

Make the mittens using the magic loop. 

Increases using the backwards loop cast on. 

Complete the thumb after knitting the mitten.

Instruction for making mittens using the magic loop. 


Size  #6 or #7 (your gauge for worsted weight yarn)  24" circular needle 

2 skeins Woolstok   

Yarn for class must be purchased from the shop.  

Please take a moment to review our Class Polices, regarding cancellations, minimum enrollment etc.

Homework: Complete the 1 1/4 inch ribbing before class begins.

With circular needle #6 or #7 —24 inch cast on…

32 stitches—small

36 stitches—medium

40 stitches—large

44 stitches—x-large

48 stitches-xx-large


 Join to work in the round.  Complete either Knit 2, Purl 2 Ribbing for 3 inches.

Next, begin the stockinette stitch section as follows:

Knit every round until the mitten measures…

1 inch for small, medium, large,

1 1/2  x-large

2 xx-large

Above the ribbed cuff or to desired length before starting the thumb gusset.
