Beginning Socks

Learn how to knit sock using the magic loop technique. Top down with insertion of the fish lips heel.    Prior experience with the magic loop is necessary.  

Includes how to fit sock for you foot, determining guage, how to knit the fish lips kiss heel.   Rounded Kitchener technique.  

Advanced Beginner Skill Level

Class is conducted via Zoom*.   Two sessions. 

Advanced instruction before the class will be sent via email.  Please make sure the shop has your current email on file.  

Each session is recorded for playback on our YouTube channel.  

Please complete the homework before class.  (See below). 

There is no charge for Zoom classes.  We request that you use yearn purchased at the shop.

Supplies Needed:  

Skein of sock weight yarn

Size #0 or #1 - 24 inch circular needle.  Size needle should give you a sock gauge of 8 stitches to the inch.  

Homework:  (if possible please complete before first class).  

Purchase sock yarn  (recommended Lazy Bee in a lighter color). 

CO 56 sts (Womens size 7 or below), CO 64 (Womens size 8-9 1/2 or below)   CO 72 (Womens size 10 or above)  on a #0 needle*

Cast on over two needles held together to make sure your cast on is not to tight.  Divide to work in the round, magic loop.  

Knit 2 by 2 ribbing for approximately 1 inch.  Switch to stockinette stitch (knit every round) until leg measures 6" to 7" from cast on edge.  

*If you know you are a tight knitter, you many want to use a #1 needle.
